Reynosa ranked as one of Mexico’s most competitive cities

According to CNN and Indice General de Competitividad Urbana (General Index of Urban Competitiveness, Reynosa, Mexico is one of the top competitive cities in Mexico. While the report indicates all cities continue to face challenges, it ranked the cities based on infrastructure, telecommunications, financial sector, innovation and world-class companies.

Reynosa already is home to many manufacturing companies and offers any size business strategic location and advantages. Reynosa is one of the fastest-growing cities in Mexico and continues to improve its infrastructure. Recently, Reynosa and McAllen opened the widely-anticipated Anzalduas International Bridge which provides a direct link between the industrial areas of McAllen/Mission and Reynosa.

Building border infrastructure crucial to economy, growth of McAllen/Reynosa

Building up the infrastructure between the Rio Grande Valley of Texas and Northern Mexico has long been a goal for citizens and public officials. Even with the recent opening of the Anazalduas International Bridge, the fastest growing area on the U.S.-Mexico border faces challenges, in part to the burgeoning population.

Mike Blum, former city planner for the City of McAllen and current partner and managing broker for NAI Rio Grande Valley offered his insight and opinion on “Building Up Border Infrastructure.”

Site Selection features new development, companies in Reynosa

The recent edition of Site Selection magazine discussed some of the strategic reasons why companies were choosing Mexico as their location of choice. The Anzalduas International Bridge, which opened in December 2009 and connects Reynosa and McAllen, provides companies with an efficient route from points south of the border to the North American market. It is located on the west side of both cities, where there are more than 20 secure, modern industrial parks.

Mexico’s President Felipe Calderon, US Trade Rep. Ron Kirk inaugurate Anzalduas International Bridge

January 12th, 2010

High-level officials from Mexico and the United States gathered near the Anzalduas International Bridge on Jan. 11, 2010 to officially inaugurate the newest crossing between the two countries in 10 years. Mexico’s President Felipe Calderon, joined by the Mayor of Reynosa and Governor of Tamaulipas, discussed how this trade will help grow the economy in Mexico and allow free trade to flourish. U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk came down for the ceremony.

With Rep. Kirk in the area, local officials from McAllen and the surrounding cities used the time to push for commercial traffic on Anzalduas. Currently, the presidential permit does not permit truck traffic until 2015 or traffic reaches 15,000 trucks per day on the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge. However, managers are local manufacturing plants in McAllen/Reynosa have indicated that commercial on Anzalduas International Bridge would greatly reduce costs, allow them to operate more efficiently. Increased bridge traffic could mean higher retail sales

According to early preliminary reports, traffic across three area international bridges increased during the the 2009 holiday seasons, which could indicate higher retail sales, according to a report in The Monitor.

On Dec. 15, 2009, the The Anzalduas International Bridge opened for traffic and cuts down the travel time between McAllen/Mission and Monterrey, MX and points south.

Final sales tax numbers and bridge traffic reports will be available later this month.

Anzalduas International Bridge opens – first bridge along US-MX border in 10 years

At 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 15, the Anzalduas International Bridge opened for traffic. The Mayors of McAllen, Mission, Hidalgo and the Mayor of Reynosa were the first official car to cross the bridge. The Anzalduas Bridge, located in south McAllen/Mission and western Reynosa, MX, is the first bridge to open along the border in 10 years.

The bridge is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and has a U.S.-side SENTRI lane. Currently, it serves only non-commercial traffic, but is expected to save visitors more than 45 minutes if they are coming from Monterrey or cities south.

Anzalduas International Bridge Opens Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009

The Anzalduas International Bridge will open for traffic Tuesday, December 15 at 6 a.m.
This will be the first international bridge to open in Texas and Tamaulipas in 10 years.

The hours of operation are 6 am to 10 pm. There is a US side SENTRI lane. The access points on the U.S. side are located near Military Highway and Bryan Road. In Reynosa, the access points are near Parque Villa Florida, on the city’s western edge near the highway to Monterrey. The Anzalduas Bridge will be the most efficient and direct way to travel between Monterrey and cities south in Mexico and the Rio Grande Valley.

Road improvements stimulate new Anzalduas International Bridge

September 1st, 2009

In part to government stimulus funding, the road that serves as the main connector between the new Anzalduas International Bridge to the major east-west expressway will receive improvements.

According to the local article that appeared in The Monitor, the improvements are: “The Bryan Road project will create a new interchange at Expressway 83 and create an additional bridge over Trinity Street. Expressway 83 traffic will pass over Bryan Road, which will intersect directly with the expressway’s frontage roads.”

The new Anzalduas Bridge will be the third international bridge to connect Upper Hidalgo County (McAllen/Mission) to Reynosa, MX. This bridge will provide direct access from Reynosa’s southwest quadrant and industrial parks straight to South McAllen/Mission. The Anzalduas Bridge is set to open late 2009.

Hours to be extended at new Anzalduas International Bridge

June 18th, 2009

Local Hidalgo County officials are working to extend the hours of operation from 12 to 18 hours on the brand new Anzalduas International Bridge.

The new bridge connects Reynosa’s southwestern section with the southside of McAllen/Mission near the Foreign Trade Zone. The Anzalduas Bridge is set to open during October 2009.
